Caitlyn’s Fight for Life

Donation protected
Many people have been following Caitlyn's story since she was 1st admitted to the emergency department at the Caboolture hospital on the 25th of July after suffering from flu-like symptoms.
Since then she has remained in ICU.
This morning we had another meeting with all of Caitlyn’s head doctors, nurses and consultants. Unfortunately it wasn’t at all what we wanted to hear. Caitlyn is still listed as critical and they are taking her ‘case’ day by day. Ultimately Caitlyn needs open heart surgery to remove the ‘vegetation’ (Endocarditis) and replace the damaged artery but they have said for now, because of her current condition that surgery is not a option. She just simply isn’t strong enough to survive such an invasive surgery. So for now we wait, wait and hope that Caitlyn continues to show signs of improvement. Where they can then remove her breathing tube...and if she survives the tube being removed, we can move forward and focus on rehabilitation and getting her strong enough for the surgery. All while hoping that the ‘vegetation’ stays contained and doesn’t decide to release anymore infection into her system. This is going to be a tremendously long and difficult journey for Caitlyn, with her MRI showing that she has had 6 big strokes and multiple little ones causing more hurdles for Caitlyn to go through. Some of which we know, (it unfortunately looks like Caitlyn is paralysed down the right side of her body). Other damage we will discover later, but it’s too early to tell. Caitlyn’s hospital stay is expected to be at least 6 months to possibly even a year. As Caitlyn was the provider for her home and boys we have decided to start a gofundme to continue covering her rent and providing for Mason and Frankie. Money will also go towards extra rehabilitation and anything else that Caitlyn may require. I know covering her rent won’t work out long term but I’m still hoping for a miracle and she would want her home to go back to. So I’m going to continue paying it for at least 3 months and I will reassess the situation later on down the track.
The love and support people have shown Caitlyn is astounding and I thank you all.
