"Caitlin Maureen McCarthy, arrived in the world and to us a little after 3:00 am on February 22nd, 1987, a precious blue eyed baby girl. As Caitlin grew to become a toddler we had her tested for Cystic Fibrosis. The news we received was devastating, she had tested positive. The prognosis at the time was a life expectancy of 18 years. Caitlin is now 34 years of age and is taking a new drug therapy Trikefta. This drug has been miraculous in treating her CF.
About a year ago Caitlin began to experience a pain in her breast. After consulting with her doctors, it was determined that she had breast cancer. Caitlin underwent a mastectomy in January, and as the pathology results came back they seemed to indicate a more aggressive type of cancer. After a PET scan was performed it was confirmed that she has stage IV metastatic cancer.
Caitlin will begin chemotherapy treatments in near future. It is our hope that she will demonstrate the same fight, determination and will to live that she has shown in her battle with CF. We are hoping the chemotherapy will be successful in putting her cancer in remission, and that like Trikefta a new miracle cancer drug will be developed.
We ask all people that read this to keep Caitlin in their thoughts and prayers. I will post updates as needed regarding her progress.
