Cait’s Rise From the Ashes: Help Cait and Cat Rebuild!
Donation protected
Our sister and friend, Cait Carter recently experienced a tragic and unfathomable loss, and she needs your help to get through this. Her apartment in Studio City, California was severely impacted by a fire in the carport under her unit during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 2, 2024. This resulted in the loss of her beloved cat Frankie, as well as her car, and the widespread destruction of her personal possessions inside the apartment.

Cait was born and raised in Santa Clarita, California. She works full time in the film industry, and despite the dedication it demands of her she is grateful to have a job that she enjoys. In her free time Cait immerses herself in music and has built up an impressive collection of concert ticket stubs (now smoke-stained but mostly intact!). She is a devoted daughter and sister, a cherished friend, and a source of support and stability to everyone who knows her. Cait is the kind of person that you can depend on in your toughest times, and she will always give 100% of herself to the people that she loves.

Sunday morning Cait was awoken at 4 am by the smell of an electrical fire. When she looked out her window, she saw smoke and flames. Within two minutes all of the smoke detectors in the building were blaring, and heavy smoke was pouring into her apartment. She attempted to get her two cats (Frank and Murphy) into a carrier, but both were spooked by the alarms. Frank and Murphy are skittish under normal circumstances, and the overwhelming chaos of the fire led to them hiding themselves in the apartment. With the smoke continuing to thicken, and fire climbing the side of her building, Cait had to make the devastating choice to leave the apartment without either of her cats.

Luckily, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded quickly and expertly. Cait was thankfully reunited with one of her cats, Murphy, who was immediately put on oxygen and then to an emergency vet for further care. However, her other cat Frankie had hidden in a spot that was too inaccessible to the firefighters and tragically passed away from the smoke inhalation. We are grateful for the LAFD’s efforts, and that they were able to eventually recover Frankie so that she can lay him to rest.
The carport had five cars parked in it, including Cait’s, and all are gone -- nothing left but metal and ash. Cait’s apartment is currently uninhabitable and there is massive heat, smoke, soot, and water damage. Essentially everything she owns is destroyed, and what she has left has to be sifted out of the ruins.
It is an unthinkable tragedy, and although Cait and Murphy are safe, she is now faced with the staggering task of rebuilding her life.
We are setting up this fundraiser to assist her with these enormous expenses, and we are asking for your help:
- vet bills to ensure Murphy’s recovery
- cremation services for Frank
- down payment on a replacement car
- deposit on a new apartment
- replacements of the countless belongings that have been destroyed (furniture, household appliances, clothes, food etc).
It is going to be a slow and exhausting road for Cait as she rebuilds, and with your financial support, we are hoping to help lessen the load and provide what comfort we can in the face of unimaginable disaster.
Cait is an incredibly strong young woman. She has spent her life taking care of the people around her, being a steadfast pillar of character and reliability for those of us lucky enough to have her in our lives. Because of this unbelievable tragedy, we have the opportunity to return the favor, and repay her for the compassion, support, and love that she has always selflessly showered onto others. No one deserves to experience these kinds of senseless tragedies. No one deserves to watch their life go up in flames. But Cait does deserve your support, and with you, we can show her the same generosity of spirit that she has never asked for in return.
