Following on from the recent assault and stabbing of a 26 year old Chilean tourist at a local Cairns backpacker hostel, the Cairns community is being encouraged to come together to assist in the recovery process of Constanza “Kuki” Escudero by pledging financial assistance.
Cairns is a wonderful city filled with wonderful natural attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef – which is why tourists such as Constanza are drawn from all over the world to our region. Similarly, Cairns is a city of very generous people who know how to show their hospitality when rolling out the welcome mat. I implore all concerned people who have been moved by this unprovoked assault and stabbing of our Chilean visitor Constanza to stand united with me and others to show their humanity by donating generously. Constanza is someone's daughter, someone's sister and someone's cousin and she could have been my daughter or your daughter.
Let’s now welcome her into our Cairns family with open arms so that she may always be reminded of the goodness of Cairns and its people – rather than the random and brutal unprovoked act of violence that recently threatened her very life.
