Cain's Story

Christened Cain Gene Schnose, he was growing fast and furious at 6 ½ months old. So happy and always laughing—that hearty baby laugh we all love—starting to crawl, watching his big brother Dante’s every move, getting ready to keep up with all his energy.
Two weeks ago, Cain had fallen ill. He went to his pediatrician, two days later his parents, Ben and Monica took him to the ER with a high temp. He responded well to treatment and was sent home. Less than 24 hours later an ambulance was rushing him to the hospital—diagnosis, bacterial meningitis. A deadly brain infection that he could have picked up anywhere.

He is fighting hard like a warrior, but the infection has caused extensive damage to his brain. Doctors say he will be afflicted with Cerebral Palsy. It’s devastating news that he will be trapped in a body that can no longer control movement, balance, posture, speech, eating, among other problems. It is incurable and the damage cannot be reversed. This will be a lifetime disability for our precious Cain.

The Schnoses and Arteagas are providing Cain a strong family support system and he is loved beyond measure. But as we all know, all the love in the world cannot pay for medical bills, doctor bills, medication that he will need the rest of his life, speech/occupational/physical therapists, home care so his parents can keep working (both work in the casino industry} to receive health insurance, equipment, further testing, and the list goes on.

We are in desperate need to ensure Cain receives the best possible care immediately. It is a critical stage right now to start the healing process full force before there is nothing more we can do. Your donations to Cain’s medical fund will help us in our fight. We all can understand the despair one feels knowing there are treatments that can be done but are unaffordable. Please help bring back the smile to Cain's adorable face. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
