Salikenne, The Gambia, is a farming community of about 4,000 people living across 120 compounds. Families depend on agriculture for both food and income, and during the short rainy season the intense labor of planting, weeding, and harvesting requires the help of everyone—including school-aged children.
To ease this burden, the Salikenne Village Development Committee is seeking support to purchase a simple four-wheeled tractor for community use. Managed by a cooperative of women gardeners and committee members, the tractor would reduce backbreaking manual labor, improve efficiency during the time-critical farming season, and allow children to spend more time in school. All raised funds will be securely wired from a U.S. bank to the Village Development Committee’s Community Funds account. Overall, this investment would significantly reduce physical and mental strain while strengthening the community’s food security and livelihoods.
