Shared Community Ambition
In May 2026, a simple connection at the Voluntary Service Open Day set the wheels—and paw prints—in motion for an inspiring community partnership.
Paws for Thought
After an engaging initial meeting, the Clacton Volunteer Police Cadets invited Derrick and Michelle to visit their Unit just a few weeks later. Derrick and Michelle shared an eye-opening presentation on the essential animal welfare work carried out by RSPCA Essex Mid & North Branch, leaving a lasting impression on the young cadets and their leaders.
Leading the Way
Moved by the local impact of the charity's work, Staff Leader David Dhaine challenged the group to brainstorm ways they could actively support the cause. The cadets didn't just meet the challenge—they blew it out of the water.
This October, the 16 Clacton Volunteer Police Cadets and their 5 dedicated staff leaders are taking on a mammoth physical challenge: collectively walking 10 million steps across the month.
And now the Maths
To put that into perspective, 10 million steps equates to roughly 4,500 miles. That means the group will need to cover an average of 145 miles every single day, working out to almost 7 miles a day per participant—quite a challenge by any standard!
While the team has set an initial target at the fitting emergency service figure of £999, we hope the public will rally behind this wonderful group, support a fabulous cause, and help them raise an obscene amount of cash. Every single penny raised stays right here in the region, funding vital shelter, care, and medical treatment for local animals in need.
Animal Heroes
Their extraordinary effort is a shining example of local youth stepping up—quite literally—to protect vulnerable animals in our community.
