Caden's Recovery-Return to Life Post Hip Surgery

Hi everyone,

I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but our family could really use your help. Those that know me, know I don't like asking for help, but this is beyond my abilities.

During a baseball game in mid November, Caden's world (and mine) was turned upside down. As he stepped off 3rd base, his right hip dislocated. At the small ER he went to, as the doctor tried to set the hip back into place, the femoral neck and head broke in half, causing major damage. He was then rushed by ambulance to a level 1 trauma center for emergency surgery. What was a normal evening until then, quickly turned into a nightmare, as he's being prepped for surgery, I was rushing from 5 hours away to get to him. I was not prepared for the aftermath.

Due to the severity of his injury, he underwent a lengthy surgery to try and save his hip, and he emerged with a steel plate and 13 screws. His surgeon said it was "complex and incredibly complicated" and "he did the best work he could". We spent over a week in the hospital (10/10 don't recommend) and then had to pack up some things and he has had to move from Texas to Oklahoma to live with me temporarily, since he can't walk, drive, work, etc. This too has added to his stress, as he is severely homebound and largely immobile. All of that to say, Caden is looking at ongoing medical care, more surgeries (there is no guarantee that the surgery will hold, and we could be looking at a total hip replacement in the next few months), physical therapy, and a long recovery period that will keep him completely non weight bearing until end of February.

Along with the emotional and mental toll this has taken, not to mention the physical, the financial burden is...well it's overwhelming. Medical bills, hospital stay, ambulance ride, the specialty equipment and house modifications and all the follow ups with the different doctors, with several trips from Oklahoma to Texas added to the mix....the costs have added up quick. Even with insurance, the out of pocket costs are more than we can manage on our own. Due to the fact that he can't walk or drive, he also cannot work, and his regular life bills haven't quit either. He still has an apartment he's paying for, a car, electric bill, etc. Even once the restrictions are lifted, it will be several months before he will be able to get back to work, as he will be spending quite a bit of time in physical therapy rehab, learning how to walk again.

With that said, we are humbly asking for support to help cover these medical and recovery related expenses so that we can focus fully on healing and not having the constant worry of how to make ends meet. Any donation - no matter the amount - means more than we can express. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page and keeping Caden in your thoughts is also greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone for reaching out. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you!

With gratitude,
Misty & Caden
