Hello Friends and family,
As some of you may or may not know, we have struggled with learning how C learns and why he behaves the way he does for several years. Honestly, we think we were in denial of a lot of it. However, for the second time, this past October we had C tested again, and this time from a legitimate and well-known psychologist and testing facility.
We have been in a constant struggle dealing with the school and his teachers, trying to get C the help he needs and so deserves. Last year, we tried to get C on what is called an IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) to guide him, and steer him in the right areas that he needs more help in. The school denied us. (Not because C didn't show need, but because honestly, they messed up).
Now this year, he is still struggling in school, with behavior and other issues - so we requested he be evaluated again to be eligible for an IEP and some behavior treatments. In the midst of all of this, we have met with and would like to work with an advocate/paralegal to help us get the services C needs and deserves to have a good educational experience from the school.
C is very intelligent and has a very gifted brain, but he is easily distracted and needs guidance on a moment to moment basis. He also would benefit from social training to learn what is and isn't acceptable, as well as fine-motor skills.
So here's the break down: With getting an IEP, we can get Chelp. But we won't be able to come up against the school's tactics without the help of our advocate/paralegal. We need the advocate's help and expertise.
The advocate costs $1.050.00 plus $175 an hour. We estimate needing about 10 to 15 additional hours to prepare for and get through these IEP meetings to get the school to give C what he needs. This meeting will take place in January and we need time to meet with the advocate/paralegal before that. We are trying to raise this money by December 31st, or as soon as possible. We know this is a very difficult time to ask others for financial help.
We can't afford the fees, and we need your help.
Any amount is useful and helpful, we also please ask that you pray for us as we navigate all of this stuff.
We humbly thank you and wish blessings to you all.
Sincerely with Love,
Nicki, Nathan, and the Smith's
