Please help me save Caboose!
On 7/17/25, a cat was brought to my office from my work site's rail yard, where he lived outdoors. Despite having a scary neck wound, all Caboose wanted was lots of pets and love. This poor feller was making biscuits and trying to purr while in immense pain from his neck wound. After contacting several rescue groups to no avail, I decided waiting wasn't the answer and took him to the wonderful staff at Rivers Veterinary Urgent Care in Pittsburgh. Caboose wanted pets the whole car ride there and continued to show his beautiful character through all the pain.
Caboose needs your help now. His neck wound will require surgery and two weeks of medication bringing the cost of saving him up to $1,800. I will happily foster Caboose and provide updates on his path to recovery. Any help with the financial burden is much appreciated. You all are the true heroes for any help you can give.
7/17/25 - Caboose was dropped off at the Rivers Veterinary Urgent Care for an overnight stay due to low blood pressure. Tests came back negative for FiV and Leukemia, meaning this boy has a bright life ahead of him. The doctor detected some sternness in his belly and will be giving him medications for worms and fleas. Caboose took to water and food like he hadn't seen it in days. Surgery for Caboose happens tomorrow morning.
7/18 - Caboose made it out of surgery and is already purring away as much as he can before coughing from his wound. The lovely folks at Rivers Emergency Clinic gave us a wonderful discount from the initial high and low quotes. I'm happy to announce that Caboose is expected to make a full recovery with a clean bill of health! This guy deserves it all, which is how much you can tell he's happy to be here. I picked up 30 cans of wet food for him. The deworming and flea medication seem to be working well. Fingers crossed he doesn't mess with his neck stitches. Thank you all for your amazing support in helping Caboose! I know I've said it already, but you all truly are the heroes of this story! Without you, this never could have happened. ♥️♥️

7/19 - Caboose is living the dream foster cat life with an endless supply of canned food and pets. He seems a bit scared when it comes to new noises and me entering the room, but quickly realizes there is nothing to fear. I'm able to call him away from the food he's been eating by saying his name. I swear this cat knows his name already! He's taken to using the litter box and has been accident-free. Let's just say he's a straight A student already! Stitches are looking good and we're on the path to recovery.

7/19/25 - Caboose is slowly adapting to the house cat lifestyle. He's already showing comfort with being picked up and meeting new people. As I enter the room, Caboose will try to meow a hello at me, but is still silent and unable to use his voice. While he seems to be able to purr again without issue, time will tell if he regains his ability to meow. I'm happy to have him with me; it's truly a joy to visit him throughout the day. His neck stitches come out on August 2nd, at which point I'll be looking to line up a suitable adopter. He's a fun video of him in the cuddle zone.
7/24 Caboose is still adapting to the house cat lifestyle, but has already shown some great progress! This miracle cat is still on the path to recovery, but his stitches are looking WAY better. Caboose loves to eat and has been putting back three to four cans of wet food, a few servings of nutritional gel (high fat and vitamin content), and some extra treats. We gave him two options for litter boxes, and he seems to prefer the clay litter over wood pellets. I am always looking forward to coming home and feeding Caboose every day! He will become his future owner's best friend in no time!
