Medical Equipment for Jegol Hospital
Donation protected
Harari Care Foundation is an organization dedicated to enhancing life in Harar, Ethiopia. We are a team of Hararis who have joined forces with this objective in mind.
Current Project: Essential Medical Equipment for Jegol Hospital
Many healthcare facilities in Ethiopia struggle with shortages of essential medical supplies, including surgical equipment, laboratory supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE). These shortages directly impact patient care and have dire consequences on patient health.
About Jegol Hospital
Jegol Hospital is a general-level hospital with 125 beds located in Harar, Ethiopia . As the first government-sponsored hospital in the region, it serves a population of approximately 1,000,000 in Harar and neighboring communities. Over the past three years, the hospital has maintained an average annual performance, admitting 3400 inpatients, serving 45,000 outpatients, and attending to 2500 emergency cases. These figures underscore the hospital's vital role in the community's healthcare landscape. Unfortunately, the hospital faces challenges in procuring an adequate supply of medical items, including equipment, to meet the needs of its patients.
Partnership with Project CURE
We have partnered with Project CURE, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supplies life-saving medical equipment, supplies, and services to hospitals globally. The Project CURE Cargo program focuses on large-scale shipments of carefully curated donated medical equipment and supplies, allowing for the transportation of significant quantities of medical aid in each delivery.
Project CURE has worked within Ethiopia for many years, supporting hospitals in the Oromia region through medical equipment donations and services.

Your donation will support the following costs:
- Cost of an initial needs assessment of Harar hospitals
- Cargo shipping fee to Ethiopia for donated supplies
- Ethiopian Customs Clearance Fees
1. Needs Assessment of Jegol Hospital
In June 2024, members of our team at Harari Care will accompany Project CURE on a visit to Harar, Ethiopia, to conduct an initial assessment of Jegol Hospital. During the assessment, we will:
- Conduct interviews with the medical staff
- Perform a comprehensive analysis of current medical operations
- Document specific needs of the medical facility
2. Packing List and Container Shipment
After the initial needs assessment, an assessment report will outline the hospital's specific needs, and a customized supply list will be created. Once the packing list is reviewed and the shipment details are approved, all documents are sent to the partner organization. A cargo container with medical equipment and supplies will be shipped from a Project CURE warehouse to the receiving hospital.
Examples of medical equipment/supplies include:
- EKG machines
- anesthesia machines
- feeding tubes
- respiratory supplies
- surgical instrument kits
- PPE
3. Impact evaluation
Approximately four months after the container has been delivered, an evaluation will be conducted to determine:
- If medical supplies and equipment in the container were utilized as intended
- If the supplies had an impact on the medical practices at the facility
