Help Bring Gracie Home

Donation protected
On June 9, 2020 my sweet - but slightly unique kitty - Lady Grace Purrington stopped drinking water.

I thought it was because her water bowl broke, and she was being picky. But no other substitute could tempt her. She slowly stopped eating hard food, and eventually stopped using her litterbox. Also, she was spending almost all her time under the bed - unless she was snuggling with me.

I was keeping in touch with her vet, and trying all the advice she gave. But when Gracie couldn't keep three wet meals in a row down, I decided to bring her in for an appointment on June 17th. Based on the tests, and available info, I made the decision to have her undergo exploratory surgery the next day to look for any foreign substances.

None were found, and she came home later that night, with five medications and a very bare belly.

Gracie remained a little lethargic, and continued to refuse water. She fought all medication dosing, and only received a fraction of what she needed as a result.

I took her to the emergency vet hospital on Sunday June 21st.

As of today, Gracie has a fever of unknown origin. She is receiving IV fluids and antibiotics. She had to have a a full abdominal ultrasound by a specialist, and I'm waiting to receive those results.

I never imagined I would be one of those people who went into debt for a pet, but then, I thought if they needed this much care, they must be very sick. I was so wrong.

Gracie is almost completely healthy. At her annual check up two months ago everything was perfect. She's only 7 years old, and I just haven't felt right about stopping care for a cat who is not suffering.

Which is how I find myself with a bill that's just over $4,500 at the moment, and will only go up.

I do not expect anyone to pay the costs of caring for my Gracie, but I've had a few people suggest I give others the opportunity to help. So I'm swallowing some pride (it really hurts going down, too!), and asking for some help with her vet costs.

For those who don't know me, I'm currently in my last semester of an accounting diploma, and was let go from my part-time work due to COVID-19.

Thank you for reading her story. If you are unable to help financially, perhaps you can share this campaign on your social media.
