Avery Peters, one of our extremely talented sophomores on the varsity Raider's Dance Team was in a horrible ATV accident late last Thursday night. She was sent by ambulance to Lurie's Children's Hospital of Chicago where a team of 25 people were waiting for her. Not only was her tibia broken but it was an open fracture with potential risk for infection. Avery had reconstructed surgery at noon on Friday and, thank God, did not lose her leg but still remained in the ICU due to the injuries to her vascular system.
She lost six pieces of her bone that now has a very long nail holding the leg together. Over the next couple months, she will need blood clot injections and, more than likely, there will be additional surgeries to come. It is going to be a lengthy road to recovery but we're so thankful for all the positives through this traumatic experience; she still has her leg and the vascular system is functioning.
For Avery, dance is one of her greatest passions and you can so clearly see that through her natural ability to perform and incredible technique & skill. Beyond Avery's undeniable talent is an impactful young lady with a huge heart and fun-loving personality that makes her a joy to her team and those around her. We know this journey will be a long one but we want to support and encourage Avery every step of the way! Help us lessen this financial burden to come - please remember, there is no number too small as we appreciate every penny that is being donated to help our girl make a fast recovery!!
A ginormous thank you for all of your support in advance!
Sincerely,
Avery's RDT family ❤️
