Hello All,

I want to tell you a little about my family. My name is Socorro Madrigal, my husband is Jose and I have three children. We are a low-income family who lives day by day with what Jose earned. My children are good children who like to study but they worry about everything we are going through because a year ago my husband was diagnosed with a hip problem and they told him that he required surgery. Since we don't have insurance, he had to be on the waiting list. He could no longer walk, but was still working. Jose never stopped working until COVID-19 crisis hit. He was laid off last March 16th, as the restaurant he was working at temporarily closed and there are no plans of reopening so far. 

It is a concern because we do not have money to pay the rent and are afraid that the landlord will tell us to leave. Due to COVID-19, I am also very afraid of walking out on the street. I just go out to bring food to the centers where they give away food. More recently, we received a letter that Jose's hip surgery has been approved. I unfortunately, won't able to work until my husband recovers, and do not want to worry my children and affect their grades. One of my daughters recently had a downfall in her grades, because she was always wondering if we will get evicted. Thankfully, a mentor helped her and she was able to raise her grades and apply to other schools. 

I am telling you a little about what my family is going through. For those who read my letter: God bless you for having that big heart and my family and I will always have you in our hearts and we send you our blessings.
