One Year Away from Becoming a Doctor - Help me Finish

Hi my name is Osuare Atafo

I am one year away from becoming a physician.

After years of sacrifice, sleepless nights, and relentless dedication, I am finally in my final year of medical school at Ross University School of Medicine . This journey has demanded everything from me—and I have given it everything in return. I passed my foundational science exams, successfully completed the CBSE, passed Step 1, and went on to excel in my clinical rotations, earning top scores on my shelf exams while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Along the way, I’ve mentored other students, served as a tutor and I am actively involved in research, and committed myself to giving back to others pursuing this same difficult path.

But now, despite how close I am to the finish line, I am at risk of not being able to continue.

I currently have an outstanding tuition balance of $125,447 USD, and as I enter my final year and my school is preventing me from moving forward. The total amount I need to complete my education is approximately $200,000 USD. This reflects not just tuition, but the real, unavoidable costs required to continue—rent, groceries, gas, utilities, payment towards upcoming exams, and the tuition and fees for upcoming clinical electives. These are the basic necessities that allow me to show up for rotations, continue my training, and finish my degree.

As an international student from Canada attending medical school abroad, securing financial support has been incredibly difficult. Traditional loan options are extremely limited, and many lenders are unwilling to support students in my position. My family has already given everything they could to help me get this far, and their resources are now exhausted.

I have done everything in my power to contribute as well. Alongside my studies, I have been working as an online tutor for Canadian students, using the skills I’ve developed throughout medical school to help others succeed academically. However, due to visa restrictions, I am unable to work in the United States, which significantly limits my earning potential. With the intense time demands of clinical rotations and studying for major board exams, my opportunities to earn are both limited and inconsistent. Despite my efforts, it has been impossible to make even a meaningful dent in the overwhelming cost of completing my education.

I never imagined that after coming this far—after years of proving myself academically, pushing through exhaustion, and dedicating my life to becoming a doctor—that my journey could be cut short because of finances.

This is more than just a career for me. It is a calling. It is the promise I made to myself to care for others, to show up in moments that matter most, and to use everything I’ve learned to make a difference in people’s lives.

Right now, I am studying for Step 2—one of the most critical exams of my career—while carrying the weight of uncertainty about whether I will even be able to finish what I started. The thought that my future could come to a halt, not because of lack of effort or ability, but because of financial barriers, is devastating.

I am asking for your help to raise $200,000 USD so I can complete my final year of medical school and continue toward residency. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me closer to the finish line I have worked so hard to reach.

If you are unable to donate, sharing my story would mean everything to me.

Thank you for helping me keep this dream alive.
