It is with great sadness that I have to announce my good friend and our collegue Joseph DiCapua passed away. Joe started in the referee community in the mid 1980's as a referee. Joe was a great official and an even better administrator. In 2000, Joe became the referee assignor of the LIAHL Hockey league and has been a tremendous influence on young officials in the game that he loved. Joe dedicated his life to hockey and had helped create officials that have made it to Professional Hockey. In 1995, I had the pleasure of being roommates with Joe at regional camp and have worked with him throughout my officiating career. Since 2010, I have had the pleasure working with Joe as the assignor for the LIAHL and the Nassau County High School Hockey League. Joe made assigning look simple but it took a great chess player to make it happen, and Joe made it happen day in and day out. This past Friday Joe was reconized for his accomplishments and recieved the Commissioners award from the LIAHL. Joe will be missed and our community has suffered a great loss. Please keep Joe's wife Carol, his daughters Olivia, Alexis and his sons Joe and Luke in your thoughts and prayers.
