Hello there! I've just opened this fundraiser to raise money for my cegep tuition at École nationale de cirque, here in Montreal.
For the ones who don't know me, my name is Vitor Martinez Silva, I'm a seventeen year-old Brazilian specialized in diabolos, mostly known as Chinese yoyos (photo above)! I moved to Montreal in 2018 at the age of 13 to live and study in one of the most renowned circus schools on the planet! I started practicing diabolo in my backyard when I was 6. At the time, I also did gymnastics and aerials, moved to the world of musicals at 12 and ran away with the circus the year after!
This is my fourth and last year at the Cirque-études secondaires program (secondary school) here at ENC, yet I need to go through three more years of superior studies, DEC/DEE (cegep), to be professionalized in diabolo and circus arts, and to start a professional circus career.
However, I am, again, facing a few problems that make my staying in Canada a little harder:
- Over the last years, the price of CAD has ridiculously gone up due to COVID, Brazilian economy and politics. Today, 1 Canadian Dollar costs around 4,46 Brazilian Reais, which is almost the double of what I payed in 2018, in my first year.
- As a minor and international student, I'm not authorized, as stated on my Study Permet, to engage in employment in Canada.
- As a temporarily student and non Canadian, I am not appliable for any gouvernmental fund or help.
- As an international student, the anual tuition fee is a lot more expensive: 8600 CAD
With all that, my family can't cover all of my costs here in Montreal, and I can't help it either.
Taking in consideration other additional fees, insurances and 3% that goes to the website, I estimate a total of 10 000 dollars. Next year, with a different permet in hands, I will be able to work and, hopefully, cover all my costs myself! But the only way I can raise money for now is through this campaign, and I really need your help.
