The Sautner Family Flood Recovery

I am Tara Sautner's Mom. She and her family, (husband Cody, and daughters, Dylan and Peyton) are currently staying at our house after their house flooded the night of October 4th. Two floors of their tri-level home flooded, the sewer backed up into the flood water, and the rushing water damaged the foundation of their home by moving the joists and rendering the house unlivable. Cody's Jeep Cherokee was also totaled by the flood waters. The house is in a flood zone so they do have flood insurance, however, that insurance only covers the structure.

Everything was contaminated from the moisture and sewage and insurance will not cover non-structural items.  They are waiting to find out if the house will have to be elevated for repairs to be done and if the cost of repairs will be greater than the amount that insurance will cover.  (If so, the house will be "totaled"). They will receive temporary housing help from FEMA but that is all. The Jeep was insured but the amount insurance will pay will not cover a replacement vehicle for Cody.  They will have to replace nearly all of their furniture, including all mattresses, and many appliances. 

Any donation will be helpful as they attempt to rebuild their lives. There are many potentially costly unknowns at this point, but we know they have to replace their furniture and appliances, find a temporary place to live that is affordable with help from FEMA, pay for storage for things that we were able to salvage, continue to pay their mortgage and utilities on the flooded house while paying utilities at a temporary place, and buy Cody a vehicle.
