Hi, my name is Clare Martin and I am a singer / songwriter. My health has been declining over the last few years. I have now found out and have been diagnosed with a Pineaocytoma. Let me explain what that is. It is a Tumour / Cyst that has grown on or within the Pineal Gland in my brain. This is located right deep in the centre of the brain and is only the size of a grain of rice. My Tumour which is partly cystic as well measures 16mm x 12mm x 6mm so as you will guess is too big to be residing in such a small area. The Pineal Gland has a very important job to do, it regulates and produces our Melatonin which is responsible for our sleeping patterns it also produces Serotonin and is part of our endocrine system which in turn produces hormones. My symptoms which led to my brain being scanned are listed below.
• Tingling in my Skull
• Tingling and partial sensation difference in the right side of my face
• My eyes are very sensitive to bright lights (and sometimes my right eye has night blindness)
• My hands are stiff and sometimes has pins and needles
• I have extreme temperature difference (either sweating profusely in normal temperature, or ice cold to touch. (Especially my feet)
• I have extreme fatigue all over my body
• I have all over body pain and weakness
• I get headaches sometimes Migraines
• I have brain fog and memory lapses
• I cannot sleep and spend most nights awake.
I have tried everything to help myself in holistic medicine and with my Doctor.
Here in the UK it is very hard to find a neurologist or doctor that understands these symptomatic Tumours / Cyst. As my neurosurgeon told me last week a G.P will probably not see one in His or Hers lifetime and a Neurologist maybe one to two. As you can now see this is a very rare tumour. Pineal region tumours represent less than 1% of all primary brain tumours.
Hence this is a much unknown area and there are only 5 surgeons worldwide that can do this surgery in a non evasive way (endoscopy) as normally it is an open craniotomy! Yaks!! Hence I am seeking the best medical care for me but sadly this takes money.
The money I raise will initially provide me with surgery to have my life back but also raise awareness for others that are struggling with this unwanted visitor in their heads! Any money left over I would like to donate to another person in need for this specialised surgery and hence hopefully start a chain of fundraising for a small bunch of beautiful brave warriors as I call them worldwide.
I have given myself a 6 month target for fund raising. This money will be used for surgery and medical expenses. And as I stated from the beginning I am a Singer / Songwriter. So in true "Clare" style I wrote a song called "Little Victories" which I have especially written not only for myself and others with Brain Tumours but also for all of us who struggle with day to day problems whatever they may be. We are all unique and all important, and this song portrays a positive outlook.
It is not recorded yet, although I have brilliant musicians in place giving their time FOC. All proceeds will help me and others.
This means so much to me as it will give me back my quality of life; I am only 43yrs old and have so much more to give. Also I in turn want to help others with this rare Brain Tumour.
I have always been the one to help others and am a private person; this was hard for me to write as I am now the one asking to be helped. I thank you all in advance for reading my story and hopefully donating towards my surgery.
Regards
Clare Martin
