Hello Gnomies!
For the last three years, the Avant Yard Village has made it's way to Black Rock City by plane, train, automobile, and gnomish teleportation to do some objectively kick ass things. Numbered amongst our offerings have been no less than three honorarium projects, two plaza pieces, shibari workshops, vegan dinners for hundreds, matcha, hot sauce and boardgames parties, naked brunches, and questionable decisions made in the consent-free zone, not to mention more than our own fair share of heckling and associated shenanigans.
This year with the cancellation of the burn we were not able to make our yearly pilgrimage to the black rock desert. Some cried, others rejoiced, and if you're like me, you were feeling something in-between. The rest was welcome, but missing out on the chance to see my chosen family in our dusty home has been difficult. Fingers crossed that this time next year all of this will be a memory, and we will again be sharing post-playa stories.
In the meantime, the $1566 for our village storage unit rent was paid by myself back in October to ensure we continue to have access to the infrastructure for water, shade, and our frontage that we have come to rely on to pull of the Avant Yard year after year. Typically the storage unit fee is covered with a small portion of the Village dues, along with water for all camps.
I understand that this period has been difficult for many, but if you are in a position where donating $10-$50 to help offset the cost of our storage would not put you into a financially precarious situation, your support would be appreciated. Over the last decade The Avant Yard has become a meaningful place to so many people. With a little bit of luck, and a lot of vaccine in distribution, my fingers are crossed that we will see our shade structures rise again to take our place at the corner of the 6 O'Clock Plaza once again in 2021!
