Alex's Diabetic Skilled Companion Dog

Donation protected
Alex was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 1 year old and has been using an insulin pump for almost 8 years. He has done well, and been very healthy throughout the years. Now that Alex is almost 10, his doctors have realized that his growth is dramatically impacting the way diabetes affects his health. He can go from being happy and healthy, to being in the pediatric intensive care unit in just a matter of a couple hours. We are working very closely with his doctors to keep him from being hospitalized all the time, but because he grows at a fast rate and with no way to know when it is happening, that is just not enough. Because a diabetic skilled companion dog can know if his sugars are high or low before anyone else can, we feel that this will be the best thing to help Alex stay healthy and not miss so much school.

A diabetic skilled companion dog will be able to alert Alex or a family member to a high or low blood sugar, get him juice or a snack or medication when he cannot get it himself. It will also be able to wake him up when he is high or low and alert a family member that he needs help. In order to get this dog for Alex, there is a lot of costly training, supplies and traveling costs involved that we just cant afford on our own right now. We are trying to take care of our little boy to the best of our ability and we are asking for anyone out there that is willing to help us to help Alex!!

Thank you for taking time to read our page and for considering our needs.
