To my family and dear friends,
Four years ago after feeling ill for about a year and a half with seemingly unrelated issues such as extreme fatigue, extreme weight gain, vision changes and chronic
pain that prevented me from following an exercise routine or even hiking with my family I was finally diagnosed with type II diabetes.
I have battled the illness every way I could; changed my eating habits and followed the treatment religiously. However after about a year of taking prescription pills to control my glucose levels, I had to be put on insulin due to the multiple and devastating side effects the pills were producing – depression, suicidal thoughts and physical pain-.
After nearly two years of managing my diabetes with diet and insulin, my glucose levels have been controlled, but the weight gain has increased producing an array of secondary effects such as high blood pressure, uncontrolled cholesterol and triglycerides, chronic sciatica pain, sleep apnea, poor leg circulation,
peripheral neuropathy and a recently discovered hiatal hernia.
Doctors have recommended a bariatric procedure that has proven to help diabetic patients to control the illness and revert the side effects of the disease. I meet all the criteria and am now in the pipeline to get the surgery; However I have learned that just to take the first step –psychological and nutritional evaluations- I have to come up with a lot of money for those medical
bills and then the surgery co-pay.
As an independent worker already struggling to make ends meet in this hard economy, I will also need aide for the missed work during the recovery process.
I am humbled and grateful for any support you can offer. Much love.
