Help Mark Rebuild his home
Donation protected
Hi my name is Wendy. My boyfriend Mark lost everything in a house fire, all he has left is the clothes he had on at the time of the fire. On February 1, 2022, Mark was at the local town store buying food for his two dogs, Rev and Mia; two Labrador Retrievers, that he had adopted from the local animal shelter. When he came out of the town store, he saw black smoke coming from the direction of his home. He sped home as fast as he could praying to God it was not his home, as his two beloved dogs were home alone. To his horror it was his house completely engulfed in flames. The fire fighters could not do anything to save the property, so they could only stand by and make sure the fire didn't spread further. Mark tried to get past the fire fighters in a desperate attempt to see if his dogs were safe or if he could save them, but he was detained, he then collapsed, and was taken by ambulance to the emergency room for severe chest pain. Mark continued to pray to God the dogs some how could have escaped. When he was released from the hospital, Mark went back to the property calling the dogs names, searching the area for them, put out food all in hopes they made it out alive. The next day, the firefighters, sifting through the debris, informed Mark the dogs remains were located inside the ruble of what was left of his home.
Mark's home is a total loss as you can see from the photos. He has lived a physically hard life as a the "Town handy man" always helping anyone, he lives his life in the Grace of God, and his teachings. He lived off the grid, because there are no electrical power lines or poles in the rural area of where his home was located in Oxford, Maine. Oxford County, and Town of Oxford, is not an affluent area and it is hard enough for people to make ends meet during the best of times. He powered his home by generator, which was becoming difficult due to the spike in gas prices, he heated his home with a wood stove. Unfortunately, Mark could not obtain homeowner's insurance on his home due to the rural location, no power poles, electricity, and not located close enough to the Town center and fire department.
Mark is 60 years young, and is not in the best health. He has a heart condition but that has never stopped him from helping anyone else in need. Whether or not he knew someone he is always the first person to lend a hand. If someone slid off the road in a bad snow storm, if Mark happens to be driving, by he will not hesitate to pull over and get you and your vehicle back on the road to safety. If any community member needed a driveway plowed he is there. If someone couldn't afford to buy wood to heat their home, Mark would bring over wood, or give them what little money he could to help them buy wood. If anyone ran out of heating oil, Mark would head to the closest gas station to get some diesel to put into their tank, to get them though till the oil delivery came. If anyone was out of food, he would donate what he could from his own pantry, or head to a local food pantry to get food for his neighbors. He is a self-less man, who has never asked anyone for anything, but always helps out. Now he is in desperate need of any help he can receive. It wont heal his broken heart, or bring back his beloved dogs, Rev and Mia, but anything will help him survive, as it is winter here in Maine and Mark is now homeless, with no insurance to help him rebuild his life. Thank you for even taking the time to read Mark's story, even if you cannot donate, please share his story.
