Matt Boomhower “BOOMY”
It’s time the world knows the truth. This is a full detail, so that others can fully understand. On January 12, 2026, Matt came to his mother's house saying that he was coughing up blood. Being the stubborn man that he is, he decided he was going to go to EMT to get checked out. They rushed him to Saint Albans hospital. While inside the hospital, he threw up 2 vomit bags of blood. At that time, they decided to send him to UVM Medical Center. He felt a lot better at that point only because he had emptied his stomach of the blood that filled it. While he was sitting on the bed, he got gas. He sat up on the side of the bed and let out a fart that smelled worse than anything I have ever smelled before. Shortly after that, he said he had to go have a bowel movement. While he was in the bathroom, I heard him flush the toilet seven times. When he came out of the bathroom, he had blood all down the front of him and the back of him. Blood was coming out both ends. At that moment, he sat down on the bed and lost all energy. They came in and x-rayed him, then moved him to another emergency room, where they started pumping O negative blood into him. He was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit. They intubated him, meaning they sedated him and put a ventilator in. We waited for the GI doctors to show up. They took him for surgery and 4 hours later they brought him back to the ICU. They put a rubber band around the broken vessel in his esophagus. On Friday, he left the hospital and went home. Saturday night, he was feeling dizzy and nauseous, so we gave him one of his nausea medicines. Sunday, January 18, morning, he called me about 1 AM saying he had to go back to the hospital immediately. I went down to find blood all over the place. We got him on an ambulance and rushed him back to Burlington. Once again, he was rushed to ICU. They re-intubated him and went in to stop the bleeding. They worked on him for a few hours and could not stop the blood. He started bleeding intensely. At that point, they decided to put in what is called a TIPS. A TIPS diverts blood around the liver, relieving the pressure from the vessels in his esophagus. During the surgery, they gave him over 60 units of blood, around 8 gallons, replacing every drop of his blood about four times in about five hours. The surgery was a success, but he was still bleeding from the vessels in his esophagus. His next surgery was what they call an IR embolization. They went inside of him and put a coil around the vessel to stop the bleeding. Two days later, they brought him back for another IR embolization. The second time, they could find no more bleeding. January 21, they started to lower his sedation medicine, getting prepared to wake him. When he became conscious, it took well over 24 hours to get him coherent enough to remove the ventilator. For the next few days, he suffered with delirium very badly. He now is back to his right mind. At first, he could not move much of his body. Today, he took his first steps. I am putting this out there so that anyone that is experiencing the same symptoms has some kind of knowledge of the illness. My brother has never asked for charity from anyone. Anyone that knows Matt knows that he would give the shirt off from his back. He has helped many of you and changed a lot of your lives for the better. I put up this GoFundMe today to help him with his medical bills and everyday living expenses. He will be in recovery for a while. I know money is tight, but at this point, any donation will help him with his bills, so he does not lose everything. Thank you in advance.
