Hi y'all! It is with a heavy and sad heart that I am typing, again, asking for support for my brother. For those of you who don't know his story, Michael was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in August of 2017 (he was 21 years old). Eleven months later, he completed his chemotherapy... beating cancers ass! Within those eleven months, he also had a leg amputation due to the tumor in his left ankle.
Fast forward to July 16, 2020. We can all agree this year has sucked. However, he has now unfortunately been diagnosed with the same cancer once again. Ewings Sarcoma is rare and aggressive, but we know Michael is strong. Michael's tumor this time around is in his lungs, and it is growing rapidly. To put it in perspective, Michael's last scans in March 2020 were completely clear and he was not due to have more scans until next month, so this little devil has only one priority... to grow. To complicate things, the tumor is sitting on an artery, so the doctors cannot operate confidently to remove it. So, he is starting chemotherapy Monday, July 20th. He needs 8 rounds with about three weeks in between each round.
Michael was living in Houston and attending law school for the past year. When he realized the reality of his cancer returning, my brother knew he needed to move back to Austin to return to the same staff who helped get him through cancer before. We are asking for donations to help him with his move, medical costs, etc. as he will be going through chemotherapy completely alone this time around. This has all unfolded extremely quickly. 48 hours ago from when I am typing this right now (7/17 @6pm) we had no knowledge of Michael even having tumors. We completely understand that this is a big ask, and we are very aware of the situation families may be in currently with everything else going on in the world. If anything, we hope his story will get passed along (shared on Facebook, word of mouth/text, etc.), and people will think of him. We ask for prayers for him and his medical staff during this time.
