The past 3 days have been nothing short of a nightmare for our family. What we thought started as a minor injury for Odin quickly turned into something much more serious. On Thursday afternoon, he greeted me at the door wagging his tail like always and within an hour he had lost all mobility in his back legs.
Seth and I rushed him to the ER where we also learned he also had partial facial paralysis. He was then transferred to Upstate Veterinary Specialties. He has been staying there since Thursday night to keep him comfortable and stable while awaiting his consultation with the neurologist for his MRI. He has undergone imaging for his brain, neck, and spine. The findings have concluded that it could be Degenerative Disc Disease or possible cancer, but there is no way to tell for sure without spinal surgery, which the neurologist does not feel will be beneficial for the severity of his case.
This all came on extremely suddenly and the decline was so rapid- This is nothing that we could have ever prepared for. Although he may never regain mobility in his hind legs, and his partial facial paralysis is still a mystery to the doctors, we are so happy to say that Odin is currently pain free and will be coming home with us tomorrow. Life is just going to look a little different for our family.
We have put forth thousands of dollars so far to get to this point. Anything to help continue to keep our Odin comfortable as we transition from the ICU back home and learn to navigate this new lifestyle of having a handicap dog/begin getting the equipment needed for him is so appreciated. In the mean time, please keep sending him all of the prayers, love, and positive energy as we start this journey together.
