Hi Friends,

I am starting a GoFundMe for my good friend, Cheryl Phelps (Clack). I’ve known Cheryl for over 35 years and she is a incredible mother, friend, teacher and neighbor. Cheryl is a single mom of two children (Riley is a 16 year Junior and her younger brother, Evan is 15 and a sophomore). Cheryl teaches high school in San Diego and is a passionate educator!

Cheryl’s beautiful daughter, Riley, was born cerebral palsy, a medical condition that affects movement, muscle tone and motor skill functioning .  She was also diagnosed with Epilepsy two years ago.

None of that has stopped Riley from doing what she loves (she is a 3rd year varsity cheerleader, surf, swim, snow ski, riding roller coasters and even zip lining!). She is a lover of animals and has a wide group of friends that she keeps connected with over Zoom.

Riley uses a power wheelchair for mobility and has a special medical bed with a lift and head elevation to aid her sleep. It also has a alternating pressure mattress because she is unable to turn herself over when she sleeps. Unfortunately, the bed is 20 years old and is broken. The cost to replace is $9000 and Cheryl is not able to afford a new bed. 

Riley incurred serious infections and was hospitalized last week. She had 2 major surgeries to  remove the pressure wound on her spine due to bacterial infections, including cutting out a portion of her spinal-fused rod, which had also developed bacteria. The wounds developed ((and worsened) from being in bed for the past 6 weeks. Having a new bed with the right equipment is crucial to her recovery. She missed her first week of 11th grade and will be spending her recovery in her bed, while attending school.

Please help me raise money for Riley’s new bed...any small amount helps.
