Hello family, friends, and generous people!
In March of 2019, my parents lost their home in a terrible flood – one that news outlets described as a "once in a hundred years" natural disaster. With it, my parents not only lost a place to live; they also lost a connection to 26 years of their lives, including my upbringing. I was born and raised to the age of 18 within those walls, and my parents made sure it was always filled with love.
To make matters worse, my parents are also of retirement age, but like many, are not in a position to retire. The loss of their home pushes those plans even further from reach. The stress of having to demolish and rebuild their home while navigating the complex, and often obstructive, measures put on them by flood insurance providers, mortgage companies, and private contractors has been of detriment to their financial, emotional, and mental well being.
As their construction gets closer and closer to finishing, it's become clear that the insurance payout and SBA loans will not cover the costs necessary to finish construction on their house. They have been displaced for over two years, and all we want is for them to have some comfort – the comfort they've worked a lifetime to earn.
Please contribute what you can and share their story to your friends and family. We cannot express how grateful we are to everyone reading this.
