Dear Donors,
My name is Monica, I am raising money for the Garcia family, Morris and his family of 6. I have known Yolanda, Morris' wive for over 15 years and since we met she has been one of my best friends. We grew up together, we have kids that are growing up as cousins together. We have become more than friends and more like family. I am sure many of you can connect to this.
Morris has been having abdominal pains for about a year or so but doctors told him that this was probably attributed to his diet. Sometime in the beginning of April 2019 he noticed a pain starting in his bottom abdomen and a change in his bowels. The pain never went away so he went to see his doctor and requested a colonoscopy. The doctor couldn’t finish the colonoscopy because they found a tumor blocking the colon. The biopsy came back malignant. Along with the tumor, a CT scan shows lesions in his liver and swollen lymph nodes.
On May 31, 2019, we all got devastating news, Morris is fighting stage 4 colon cancer. He will need chemotherapy for the rest of his life. This is heartbreaking news. However, I believe in god, I believe Morris with the right care will live a long and happy life with his family.
Yolanda and Morris are currently seeking a second opinion and hope there’s another treatment. We’re not going to settle with what the first doctor said about their being no cure.
Morris is a devoted father to 4 beautiful chindlren. (All names will be kept confidential, as 2 of the 4 children are school aged). His eldest son, is currently in middle school and Morris is his best friend. I often hear stories of how he seeks the advice of Morris (specifically) in difficult middle school age appropriate situations. His second boy attends elementary school, he and Morris share a passion for sports. In fact, Morris coached his basketball team more for at least 2 years now. Then he has a 3 year old daughter, who is a complete daddy’s girl. In some of my outings to the park with her and her mother, when she falls she wants her daddy. She considers her brothers and dad "her boys," to the point my friend has to explain she doesn’t have 4 boys, but 3 and her wonderful husband Morris. They are expecting a sweet baby boy in July 2019.
I would like to raise money for this family, as you know life in the Bay Area has gotten extremely expensive. Morris is the sole financial provider to this family. Yolanda needs to focus on caring for her newborn, 3 additional children and Morris. I do not want Morris to have to worry about money to simply meet the financial demands of daily life. I would like to raise money to help Morris pay for medical bills, prescriptions, child care as he will have to go on disability and continue to support his family. Could you imagine being the single financial provider to a family that you adore and being put on disability? I could not, but this could happen to anyone of us. In fact, colon cancer affects 1 in 20 people. This is a real possibility.
Please help me support this family. Let this be a time you donate for a greater cause. Let this be the time you do something for someone else, let this be the time we support a family like yours and mine.
