Asher will be Two October 15th. He is a force to be reckoned with in every possible way. He is our only pet and he has ment more to us than we ever thought possible when we picked him. He is a german shepherd husky mix with a personality 4x bigger than he is. Sunday around lunch time we were just getting home, I opened the car door and Asher took off after the neighborhood dogs. This is something he has done periodically, missing for a hour or two but never fails to show up at the back door like nothing happened. This day Asher would be missing for 5 hours. We post on FB, Nextdoor, FB groups, texted and call neighbors, friends, family, called shelters, searching for Asher's trail. Around 4:00pm we found Asher in our garage. He was soaking wet, covered in dirt, laying in pee, bleeding, all life totally sucked out of him. We have no idea how long he had been in there, why he would go in there, or what happened to him. We cleaned him up, assessed his wounds, brought him in to rest and sat with him. His breathing was extremely labored. Making phone calls to figure out the next step I decided if he wasn't better in the morning we would rush him to the net. The first Vet was able to get blood work done with showed a bruised liver, only 2 out of the 6 ex-rays were done before the nurse saw he had a Collapsed lung and we needed to rush him to the ER asap! The risk of his breathing stopping at any min took the breath out of my own body. On our way to the ER I'm trying to figure out how we are going to pay for this next visit. Thanks to COVID we sat in the car while they took asher inside to get him stable. Hours went by and finally a update. Asher was in a oxygen chamber and needed a "chest tap" to release some of the air around his lungs, he wasn't being very nice to the staff so they were going to have to sedate him to start any of this process. They gave me a piece of paper of a break down of best and worst case scenario, $3,00 down to start saving asher and up to $5,000. He would of had to be at the hospital for three nights away from his family. How on Earth could I afford that?? They told me my options were to pay the money to save him OR put my dog to sleep! I could not let money be the reason I make a decision on killing my best friend. I could not kill him but yet I had no way of paying that much money. I was backed into a corner so I took asher home. The risk of just going home is, his collapsed lung if left untreated can cause him to slowly suffocate and die at the house around the kids. This is the most unbearable position I have ever been in. Kill the one thing that holds our family together?? Watch him slowly suffocate when he is the one that has brought life back into our home?? Funds For Furry Friends a non profit organization that focuses on animals, contacted me ready to help Asher. A huge blessing I never thought would happen. With the support and direction of these wonderful people, this GoFundMe page has been created to raise money for Asher procedures to help him breath again. Us humans might not deserve this but Asher 100% deserves this. Anything will help and every bit of the money raised with be going to his Doctors office.
