On July 31, 2023 my brother-in-law, Mike suffered a stroke that has greatly affected his left side. The part of his brain that was injured by the stroke has left Mike with very little movement and control over his left arm and leg. The doctors found that he has one severely blocked artery and one partially blocked artery, making him a bad candidate for an angioplasty. They fear that if they go in there and try to stent the artery it might rupture, and without the other artery to pick up the slack, the results could be devastating. This leaves Mike with medication management and physical therapy.

Mike is that person that makes friends instantly. His family and friends are the most important things to him and he has always done whatever it took to take care of his family. Although Mike has insurance, and most of his medical bills will be paid, the time he is not working will be unpaid. Unfortunately, due to the status of his city employment, he is not allowed disability benefits and doctors and physical therapists anticipate a 3 month recovery time.

When Mike is not working, he enjoys family time with the love of his life, Lizette, their two boys Ethan and Evan, and of course their dog Leia. Going to the Farmer's Market in LA, date nights with Lizette, and watching his boys' wrestling tournaments are just some of the things he enjoys doing. Though his stroke, is a setback, Mike insists this will be only a minor setback and is determined to be back to work and doing all the things he loves to do.
