We are a small charity of passionate local divers / volunteers who film Sussex Underwater.

Over the last 30 years our co founder a local diver Eric Smith was an eye witness to the underwater sea forests in Sussex being devastated by bottom towed fishing gear. His passion and dedication for his local sea drove him to write letters and articles about the horror story he was seeing.

Eventually his story started to be heard and a campaign was started by local conservation groups called “Help our Kelp”. This galvanised the public to support an inshore trawler ban in Sussex in 2021 , protecting over 300km2 of seabed. The aim to take the pressure off the ecosystem and let nature bounce back.

Sussex Underwater was started so that the sea would never be out of sight and out of mind again.

We now want to show everyone the amazing recovery that is starting to happen in Sussex bay.

We post our videos online and we give local talks / workshops to schools and community groups. We also work with The Sussex kelp recovery project and other marine conservation groups to spread the message of hope from Sussex.

Our aim is to engage the local community with the seas recovery following the trawler ban. We hope that the positive news here will encourage other trawler bans all over the country.

We are raising money to help buy equipment and materials that we need for taking videos and giving talks / workshops.

Thank you very much for your donation and support.
