#RuthiesTeam Against Brain Cancer
Donation protected
On November 19th, the Maddock family learned Ruthie had a mass growing in her brain. This late-stage Glioma is an aggressive and malignant cancer, creating an incredibly difficult and complicated medical situation. There are no easy answers.
Ruthie has undergone an 8-hour “awake” brain surgery and will be receiving radiation treatment every day for 6 weeks along with chemotherapy treatments to slow the cancer’s progression.
The Maddocks have excellent insurance. But it has become clear that some of the most promising treatments and quality-of-life care will not be covered by insurance. We of course want every option of care and treatment to be available for Ruthie. This fundraiser will go to support those needs.
The money will fund:
-Innovative treatments not yet covered by insurance
-Immunotherapy treatments
-Therapy and family counseling
-In-Home Care & Safety
-The stuff we can’t even imagine yet
I am a close friend of Mike and Ruthie’s, one of many who has suggested a GoFundMe page or other financial assistance to help take care of Ruthie’s unforeseen costs. No surprise, Mike at first repeatedly resisted any kind of financial help, but after serious consideration, Mike has finally agreed to the GoFundMe page on one condition:
All unused GoFundMe monies will be donated to the family’s new foundation — Ruthie's Miracle Foundation:
The Ruthie's Miracle Foundation will ease the burden for families dealing with cancer, by helping them fund treatments beyond their means. It also will contribute to other organizations that make the exhausting, expensive fight against illness a bit easier for these families. The values and mission of the foundation will be shaped by Ruthie, Mike and their sons.
We’ve all seen little miracles happen because of Ruthie’s joy, love and faith. Helping others in Ruthie's name will ensure that her memory is a blessing for many, many families in the future.
Finally, thank you for your support of Ruthie and the wonderful Maddock family. As a part of this journey they are on, Mike likes to quote James M. Barrie, Creator of Peter Pan, who says:
"Life is a long lesson in humility."
For the Love of Maddocks!!!
