Help Mom's Road to Recovery

Help with my mom's recovery by treating her to her dream vacation after a near-death experience

On October 9th at 4pm, I received a call from the barn I work at that my mother had been involved in an accident and they were calling the ambulance. I immediately stopped my work stream and went over there, where I saw her completely covered in blood with my barn manager holding her face together. She was cognitive but kept repeating herself, "Do you have my keys?" "Have you called (step dad)?" I'd tell her yes, and she'd ask again. At this point, we had no idea how bad things were.

The barn manager said they were dragging the arena in the tractor and saw her standing in the field, covered in blood and mouthing for help. My mother is on blood thinners and has other health complications, so this was extremely worrying on top of what normally would be. I sat with her while the ambulance came and followed her to the ER, where they stabilized her, but her left side of her face was peeled off. I sat with her as she was conscious and they sewed her face back together, seeing her skull exposed. She was cognitive and not repeating herself anymore; she could answer most questions and even made jokes with the surgeon stitching her face back together.

What we found in the trauma bay was:
She had been scalped, but it was mostly cosmetic. My mother is blind in her left eye, and this had missed her good eye by mere centimeters.
Her arm had been fractured.
A bruise developed on her neck where she'd been choked.
Her sides were heavily bruised.
She had a hole going through her chin several inches through.
Her vertebrae had minor fracturing.
She had minor fractures in the skull.

She can't remember what happened, but from what we have pieced together, it seems like she was petting one of the horses in the field, and her own horse got jealous and came over to butt the other horse out of the way. My mother must have been caught between them and knocked down, where her face and arm were stepped on, and her lanyard with her keys was stepped on, putting pressure across her throat.

She is very lucky to be alive with; considering what happened to her, minimal damages and no brain damage. She will need a lot of therapy as she recovers. This event also comes only weeks after she just got out of the hospital for a botched colonoscopy and needed emergency surgery, and her broken ankle that had just healed. My mom has been through so much, including cancer, and hasn't even been taking pain medications from the hospital for all of this.

What I'm asking:
My mother is the strongest woman I know, and she's really gone through something life-altering. Her face will be scarred forever, and I'd really like to take her on a cruise, get her nails done, and cover a couple of small bills for her while she's healing. She could really use something nice after everything she's gone through, and I'd love to give her the opportunity for something positive.

❓What will the funds cover?
  • Cruise on a ship she has dreamed about for her and myself to accompany her during her recovery period
  • Any extra funds will go towards small bills so she doesn't have to worry about them and small niceties she enjoys like getting her nails done and coffee
  • If funds for the cruise aren't met I will use the funds to get her some smaller, nice experiences.
