6 years ago I came out as a transgender man
5 years ago I started waiting for an appointment with the NHS
4 years ago I decided to look into private healthcare
3 years ago I started testosterone
1 day ago I was given a date for top surgery, December 13th 2023
I was born in the wrong body, and I have been doing everything in my power to be the person I should’ve always been. I am asking for your help and generosity with funding this final step.
So, why top surgery?
My chest has always been my greatest source of dysphoria; unfortunately I was blessed with a very large chest which made it even more difficult. For 8 years (yes even before I realised I was transgender), I have been wearing binders. These allow me to flatten my chest to give it a masculine look. It doesn't achieve it completely, but paired with the right clothing, it can be very convincing. But 8 years of binding brings a huge reduction in quality of life. I struggle to breathe, my ribs are in pain and have the potential to snap, I overheat in any season due to the tight compression material, and the dysphoria is always there even if it is reduced slightly. I am desperate to have this surgery to allow me to live life to my full potential.
Why so much money though?
This is a private healthcare surgery, and for many many trans people it is the only option we have to access our healthcare. As I mentioned before, I have been on the NHS waiting list for 5 years, and that is for the initial appointment to meet them. So imagine how much longer it will take to get to the actual surgery on the NHS. I have waited patiently, but I cannot wait any longer. Under the private clinic this cost includes the pre-assessment, the hospital, surgeon, and anaesthetist fee, one night stay in the hospital, and post op care. It is a lot of money, which is why I am running this fundraiser and asking you for help.
Thank you kindly for listening to my journey, even if you aren’t in a position to donate. Even sharing it to get my journey out there is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help
