Luna's Surgery

Donation protected
My name is Kelli, and I've started this because my cat Luna, my best friend in all the world, needs surgery badly.

I've had Luna for about three years now. I adopted her in Salem, MA from a shelter. I didn't even notice her at first, because I thought the cage she was in was empty. But then I saw a tiny grey ear poking out from inside a blanket, and realized she had covered herself completely with it. When I went up to the cage I was met with the two biggest eyes I'd ever seen on a cat. She was tiny, so tiny I thought she was a kitten. When I inquired about her they told me they thought she was about four years old, and just extremely small. Her teeth stick out of her mouth, as well as her tongue, and they informed me they thought she had been hit by a car at some point in her life.

When I took her home she was so nervous that she would eat her food until she threw up. I had to give her tiny amounts until she figured out that she was safe in my tiny loft studio apartment, that soon became her castle and playground.

I realized very fast that Luna is a special soul.

She briongs me my bras on a daily basis. I have no idea why, she carries them around and then meows as loud as she can at me until I've taken it. Then she just goes about her business. She also loves to bring guests her toys, mostly string, and meow at them until they play with her. She ran to the door every day when I got home from work, meowing relentlessly until I picked her up.

And then she didn't.

I forst noticed that she stopped habing a huge surplus of energy. She just spend hours and hours sleeping in her bed. Then she stopped playing altogether, and didn't want to be held as much. I also found a couple rotted out teeth on the floor when cleaning. I knew something was wrong.

After taking her to our new vet in Woburn, I learned that Luna has a horrible case of late stage gingivitis. It's so bad that she is actually allergic to her own teeth. The vet was shocked at how bad her mouth looked (as was I), all bright red and swollen. My heart broke. I couldn't bare the thought of my baby, my sister, my best friend, my soul mate in pain.

The vet told me right then to start saving my money because Luna needs all of her teeth removed.

I work at the New England Aquarium, and as a non-profit, I don't make a ton of money. But I work there because I love it.

Luna's feeling better now after being on her antibiotics, but they won't last forever, and she still needs the surgery asap. That's why, even though it hurts my pride, I'm starting this for her. Because she's my best friend and I need her in my life.

Any donation would be greaty appreciated, even if the goal isn't met, anything would help.
