Top Surgery Fund for Alex!

ALEX is a front-line social worker, dog dad, loving boyfriend, and trans man who has the opportunity to get gender-affirming surgery this coming October

Unfortunately, Alex does not have access to any intergenerational wealth and lives paycheck to paycheck to this day. Even with health insurance, Alex’s top surgery comes with an out of pocket expense of $6,000. Top surgery also has a very intensive recovery process that will require Alex to take a minimum of 6 weeks off of work. Gryffen, Alex’s partner, will also need to take a minimum of 2 weeks off in order to care for Alex while he is immobile. A goal of $10k is set to ensure full coverage of the out of pocket surgery expense, recovery time out of work, medication and medical supply cost, surgery pillows and necessary supplements.

Gender dysphoria affects many trans people day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute. It can take an all encompassing toll on their mental health and inhibit their ability to thrive in their confidence and relationships. It can make everyday tasks such as running errands, being in public spaces, and being in public restrooms infeasible, debilitating and sometimes unsafe.

Alex’s trans chosen family who are writing this have experienced this first hand as well as the relief, weight lifted, and breakthrough that comes with gender affirming surgery. Gender affirming surgery is truly life changing for us and should not have to halt our lives, financially devastate us, or become an extreme stressor.
