Funds for Baby Faruq
Donation protected
Faruq, born 9/1/15, is the 5th child of Matthew and Deondra Clark. At 8 weeks old he developed some swelling in his fingers and on top of his feet. After a couple doctor visits and some labs, the doctors thought he had rheumatoid arthritis. Last Tuesday 11/17/15 Deondra drove Faruq to a specialist in Omaha who did not believe he had arthritis, but put him immediately in the hospital for some test. They first discovered he has osteomyelitis(a rare but severe) bone infection. After some more testing he has been diagnosed with a rare genetic blood disorder called CGD, Chronic Granulomatous Disease. His disease affects 1 in 250,000 children. Average life expectancy is less than the age of 10. His body can fight a virus, but it cannot fight any bacterial or fungal infections.
Faruq has an uncle who passed away at the age of 9, in 1991. He also has a great uncle who lost his life to this disease. The doctors have given them a bit of hope that he might benefit from a stem cell transplant if one of his siblings is a match. If this works, his prognosis is much better.
As you can imagine, this has been quite devastating to Deondra, Matthew, and their family. Deondra is a registered nurse , who was supposed to start back to work this past week; However, she is not able to leave Faruq for a while. He has a special IV, called a PICC line that he will get daily IV medications for bacterial and fungal infections.
They have been been told that these medications are very expensive and are going to be very costly for the Clark family. At this time and for an unknown period of time, Deondra is without income to stay home to care for Faruq and to take him to doctors visits and many more tests. Please consider donating to the Clark family at this time of great need.
