RAGNARS SURGERY IS THIS WEEK AND I NEED ALL OF YOUR HELP! I just got some hard news... a few months ago, I rescued the cutest and sweetest of Bearded Dragons. He was found in a parking lot by the local police department. No one claimed him. Rescues were at capacity. I took him on after, not long before, losing my dear Iguana of 25 years.
I named him Ragnar. He had deep trauma to his right eye and a tail that was rotting. He was pretty lethargic and not eating on his own. I knew I had to bring him to the vet. VCA in Worcester we go... months worth of injectable antibiotics, eye drops, and pain meds to try and save the eye and hoping for self tail amputation (they can drop their tails). He became more alert, awake, wanting to roam around the house, and began to find his love for ALLLL THE BUGGIES! HAHA grasshoppers, crickets, ROACHES (YES YOU HEARD ME) I FEED THIS GUY preserved DUBIA FREAKING ROACHES - clearly I'm more of a HERBIVORE reptile specialist besides crickets for exotic frogs or leopard geckos- haha so this is NEW HAH! Anyways, he's gained weight, he's shed. Color improving, he's alert, more consistent in bathroom breaks, appetite increased, and seemingly reacting well to meds!!
The past week I noticed a tiny decline in a few areas... concerned about a new discoloration of his tail. Wondering and unfortunately knowing that the tail rot was moving up his tail - went in for a recheck.
Ragnar needs a tail amputation. $1,000. X-rays to know where to amputate $250. Eye will be removed. $1,500. Almost $3k! I immediately ask if there's any help for rescues because no way in my care would my pet have these issues and I understand there's this risk taking on a rescue but I only took him because all rescues were full. HE WOULD HAVE DIED. She said they only give discounts for actual rescues- I'd have to surrender him... it only took me a little bit to decide I just couldn't do that!!? They said they are going to try to work a little wiggle room but regardless HE NEEDS THESE PROCEDURES and I'm at a loss. This beautiful tiny creature can cost so much to heal
And so... I am going to start a GoFundMe for Ragnar. HE could use everyone's help even if I can raise a little it will help tremendously...
Any prayers and positivity are welcomed here he WILL survive this and can beat this! So many small successes and improvements in him show me he is a fighter and now stronger for this surgery ❤️ and so I truly believe this GoFundMe will save HIS LIFE.
For the love of animals,
Ashley.
