Our son Jayden is 23 months old and started having seizures after his 2 month vaccines. In November 2016 at 5 months old he was having over 70 seizures a week. Over the past 17 months, he has been on 4 different anti epileptic medications, also known as "benzos". He experienced bad side effects from each medication ranging from excessive vomiting, developmental delay, insomnia, hypotonia, increased seizures and the list goes on. Jayden, who will be 2 next month is still unable to sit, crawl, bare weight with assistance longer than a few seconds, stand, walk or talk. A year ago we didn't know who he was. It was like he was slowly slipping away from us. We started to question if he knew who we were anymore. He became emotionless. He stopped smiling and laughing. He stopped rolling and reaching for things and eye contact was non existent. His muscle tone was so low there were days he couldn't hold his head up. We have successfully weaned him off 3 out of 4 medications (we are at a standstill halfway off onfi) and since then we have seen small improvements however Jayden still has a long road ahead of him. We started Jayden on a keto/MAD diet (low carb) in October. Everything is fresh/homemade/organic/non-gmo/grass fed. All of his food comes from local farms. We have seen a decrease in seizures on this special diet.
In the beginning of the year we started seeking other treatments and therapies that aren't covered by insurance and these therapies are helping him. In 3 months we have spent over $4,000 on out of pocket expenses. These therapies are weekly chiro ($180/month), we just did 8 weeks of hydrotherapy ($552), 6 sessions with a ND ($490 with PIF discount), his food/formula costs about $120/week. This doesn't include diapers or wipes. We have spent over $1100 in supplements in the past 65 days. He was referred to begin hyperbarics oxygen therapy. Most places start a patient with 40 dives (sessions). We would go daily, for 2 months and it would cost us over $7,000. After speaking to a few people who specialize in this therapy, we feel Jayden will benefit doing 6 months therapy. We have check out other options like renting a soft chamber and it makes so much more sense for us to rent rather than have to travel 2-3 hours a day, everyday for 2 months straight. If we rent for 6 months it will cost over $15,000. If we rent to own, it will cost us $19,900. The chamber we plan to rent (or rent to own) is the Vitaeris 320. It's a medium size chamber so that one of us can go in with him. For the past year I have been researching the amazing benefits of HBOT therapy and we feel that Jayden could really benefit from this in many different areas.
I'm taking a huge leap of faith. I'm not one to ask for help but I'm desperate. I'm desperate but determined to get him better and I will do whatever it takes. This has taken a toll on our family; mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. We are making progress and unfortunately with losing my job in late 2016, I have no income and we have maxed our credit cards and I have been fighting with disability for him since last May. We are starting this go fund me with hopes to raise enough money to cover the cost of therapies, supplements, doctor visits, nutrition.
We want to thank everyone who is on this journey with us. We wouldn't be where we are today if it weren't for all of your love and support and we appreciate each and every one of you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you and God Bless,
Michelle, Dave, Olivia & Jayden
And now these three remain: Faith, Hope and Love But the greatest of these is LOVE.
