“A Mother’s Plea: Help Me Save My Daughter and Family After Losing Everything in Gaza”

Taghreed, a Palestinian teacher and mother of five daughters.

Before the war, we lived a simple, stable life in Gaza. But everything was taken from us. Our six-story home — the place where my children grew up, where every memory was built — was reduced to rubble in a single strike.

As the bombs kept falling, we were displaced over and over — from Gaza City to Al-Zawaida, then to Rafah — always searching for safety that never came.

Then tragedy struck my daughter. She was severely injured in an airstrike, suffering a brain hemorrhage that nearly stole her eyesight. Doctors told us we had only three days to act or she would go blind. We had no choice but to pay huge amounts of money to coordinate an emergency evacuation to Egypt.

I am now in Egypt with her, trying desperately to cover the high costs of treatment, rent, and living expenses. At the same time, my husband and my other daughters remain trapped in Gaza, sick, hungry, and living in a tent with no safety, no stability, and no hope.

To make matters worse, UNRWA — where I have worked faithfully as a teacher — suspended my salary and placed me on unpaid leave because I was forced to leave Gaza to save my daughter. I now have no income, no home, and no way to provide for my family.

I am heartbroken, torn between two worlds: caring for my injured child here and worrying for the family I left behind.
