Help with Devon's Medical Bills

As many of you may know, Devon, our strong, loving, and selfless daughter, sister, fiancée, and friend was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in February after a series of testing, biopsies, and scans at Penn Medicine.

The easy thing to do would have been to feel bad for herself, but to nobody's surprise she sprung into action instead, researching and learning as much as she could about her diagnosis. She promptly made an appointment with an incredible team of specialists at Johns Hopkins. During her initial visit to Baltimore, she learned that the cancer had metastasized to the lymph nodes in her neck.

Anyone who knows Devon knows that she will fight and beat this with dignity and grace, just as she has tackled every other obstacle that has ever been thrown her way. Devon is extremely grateful for the outpouring of love and support that she has received over the past few weeks since sharing her diagnosis, but she knows this is just the beginning.

She will be having surgery at Johns Hopkins in May to remove her thyroid and the surrounding cancerous lymph nodes. Her prognosis is good, and the hope is that she will not need any further treatments after surgery.

With surgery, a hospital stay, and recovery looming, she recently decided to channel some of her nervous energy and anxiety into doing something productive. She began making butterfly bracelets to sell to friends and family for $10 each. Her initial goal was to raise a little extra money to help pay for some of the medical bills that won't be covered by insurance and to raise money to donate to thyroid cancer research. She was overwhelmed with the support that was shown with over 200 bracelets being ordered in only the first few hours! Although I think making bracelets is an incredible, meaningful, and fun way for her to keep her nervous energy at bay and help pay off some of her medical bills, I want to make sure that she does not feel overwhelmed by the prospect of having to make so many bracelets.

An incredible number of people from near and far have reached out to me asking how they can help, so I decided to put this GoFundMe me together to help raise funds for Devon's upcoming treatment and follow-up appointments.

Any contribution is appreciated, but pl
ease do not feel obligated to contribute, especially if you have already done so in one way or another. And again, thank you to everyone who has already shown their support whether it be by purchasing a butterfly bracelet, donating, or sending a quick text to her or one of her loved ones with words of encouragement and love! It means more to her than you could ever know.

Any money raised that is not used for Devon's medical bills will be donated to the American Thyroid Association for thyroid cancer research.
