Luna’s surgery

Hey friends, we need your help again, this time for Luna. We know it’s not something you like to hear from us, again financial help, but … this is life, our life.

Since we’ve adopted Luna we realized something wasn’t ok with her breathing. We took her on 24 February 2024 and she was 8 months old. On the way back home she was hot, breathing heavily in order to cool herself down, while Axel was breathing normally. It wasn’t that hot, it was February; still winter. We thought she is excited or anxious, too fat or something, maybe her first ride in a car, but it wasn’t. She is suffering a lot when she is hot, so much so that she can barely breath.

From February to June she had a lot of urinary infections, that’s why when Axel had the surgery for the tumors in his testicles the doctor suggested us to sterilize her because of those infections and the fact that she was 2 months on her period.

Last summer was very hard for her. We protected her as much as we could, we have experience with Axel, but he was only hyperventilating like she is when he was much older, 8 years or so.

Besides her breathing, after each meal she licks her bowl, the floor, the carpet, in the air, for half an hour. It looks like she’s trying to swallow something, but she drinks water, what could she swallow? So we asked doctors, we tried a couple of them, with some ideas, she had a few treatments for what they suspected but nothing worked. Something might be wrong with her stomach or digestive system. She is not throwing up, eating and pooping normal, only that excessive licking until she foams at the mouth.

Axel’s doctor from Bucharest recommended when we do the throat surgery to do an endoscopy and inspect more on that licking (since she’ll already be sedated).

We’ve postponed this surgery because she was young and we hoped she wasn’t fully developed and maybe something will change, but it hasn’t.

So, next week, on the 10th of April she is scheduled for the surgery. We are going to Bucharest because we truly trust Axel’s doctor, he is the best in the country for this and we want what’s best for her.

We don’t know exactly the costs of the intervention, because it depends on what they will find. An estimate for now is 2000-2500€. If they find something else it will be more, but we will see.

Luna is with us because we wanted Axel to have a companion, we wanted for him to have this experience, for him to “talk” to someone in his own language. But Luna was something we needed, I more than anyone. I was in the biggest depression of my life (without an income, without a job, selling the house of my dreams after working for it like crazy in the past 15 years). I wasn’t in a great place mentally and also physically, I have 2 autoimmune diseases, only one kidney functioning and other minor health problems. My husband, my dogs (my family) and also my therapist helped me to start feeling like myself again. So … long story short. If you can help us, at least with a positive thought, a prayer or a share.

Again our best friends from Germany are helping us with the go fund me, because it is not allowed in Romania.
