This fundraiser has been created for Wilshon to help support his journey through his upcoming Bone Marrow Transplant.
Wilshon was born with Sickle Cell Anemia and has dealt with complications all his life. For the past few years, the progression of his disease has worsened and decreased his quality of life. From bone death in his joints to chronic blood transfusions, the disease has not only caused significant pain and distress, but has also prevented him from progressing within his career, halted his life goals, and impacted his outlook on life.
Back to back hospitalizations this year alerted him and his care team that something needed to change. After many conversations with multiple specialists and weeding out of different options, it was decided that a Bone Marrow Transplant would be his best option. So, with his brother Wilfred confirmed to be a complete match, the process began.
The goal of the transplant is to stop the severe pain he experiences often, if not daily, and put an end to any complications and life-threatening risks posed by Sickle Cell. Ultimately, we hope and pray that it will cure him. The journey will begin in September 2020 and will include a long and tough recovery process. We ask you to keep Wilshon in your thoughts and prayers and to maintain positive spirits.
We are asking for funds to help support the post-transplant recovery process. This will include housing, emergencies, medical expenses, and any miscellaneous expenses along the way. We appreciate any support and will continue to post updates.
Any money that is not used will be donated towards a Sickle Cell foundation and Hospitality Homes (the organization that has coordinated our temporary housing down in Boston).
