I'm Charles—a queer transmasc artist, writer, and advocate. My work focuses on the queer and trans experience, especially the journey of coming out later in life, and the challenges that come with it. I’m reaching out with a heartfelt request for support as I take the next big step in my transition: top surgery.
For those who don’t know me, my journey has been anything but easy. I had to walk away from the life I once knew in order to embrace the truth of who I am. In doing so, I faced many hurdles, including nearly becoming homeless, dealing with food insecurity, and losing important relationships. But despite these struggles, I knew I had to live for myself — not for the expectations of others — and in doing so, I found a new sense of freedom and authenticity. After working through these obstacles, I now work at a neighborhood non-profit that provides hope and support to those who are in similar positions to where I once was. I’m proud to be in a place where I can help others as I continue to heal myself.
Being on HRT has made an incredible difference in my life. It has helped me reconnect with my body and my identity in ways I never thought possible. But as I settle into my sense of self, even though everything is aligning, I can tell that something is still askew. I need to have top surgery. This surgery will help me feel even more at home in my body and will bring me closer to aligning my physical appearance with my true self.
Unfortunately, the cost of top surgery is not cheap, and I will need to pay a large portion of it out of pocket. I’m asking for your help to make this life-changing surgery a reality. No contribution is too small, and every bit of support means the world to me. Your generosity will not only help me feel more at peace in my own skin, but it will also enable me to continue creating art, writing, and working with others who need support, just as I once did.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story. Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated, and if you can’t donate, sharing this page with others would mean just as much.
With love and much gratitude,
Charlie B.
