Hi my name is Jo A Petit. I am starting this campaign for my soon to be daughter-in-law, Miss Aly and my son Tim. Aly and Tim were in a roll over accident in Lincoln county on Hwy 71 on June 22, 2021 around 3:30pm. I received a call from my son about 4-4:30pm. He did not realize he had been unconscious and all he could say was, "someone ran us off the road, truck rolled, Aly is not ok. Aly was driving. They just put her on Flight For Life." My heart stopped. My son does not sound ok, he hung up, we do not know if Aly is ok or will be, she was thrown from the truck, and it gets worse! We did not even know where flight for life was headed. A lady, we do not know her name (we would love to thank this Angel for saving Aly!) stopped on her way to the hospital in Hugo as her dad had had a stoke, this angel was first to find the kids. Both were unconscious, she called 911 and two other trucks pulled up, she had done what she could but she had to get to her dad. She came back later and talk to the police and my daughter Vicki, she told them Tim was in the backseat and Aly was in the field, both unconscious and she could not get them off her mind and rushed back as soon as she knew her dad was ok. I will spare you the nightmare of that evening except for one very important fact, State Patrol arrived and issued Aly a ticket for careless driving right after she arrived before she was stable or we even knew the extent of her injuries. This will prevent insurance from paying. Basically, since they had borrowed my daughter's vehicle and it had liability only and medical doesn't cover auto accidents, and the people (the kids both said family) in the we think black or dark blue mini van or small suv, did NOT stop, the kids are lost in the no insurance no money realm of health care. In a matter of seconds, their lives were changed forever. They are both 26 turning 27 (my son today and Aly next month).
Tim has a broken foot and bad concussion and our poor Aly has a broken back, clavicle, ribs, detached lung and a shattered hip and pelvic. She has had two surgeries, one on June 24th to place 5 titanium plates and a ton of screws to repair and reconstruct her hip and pelvic and another on June 28th to plate the clavicle in place. She is immobile on her left side at this time. To say Aly has a long road back is an understatement but the kids live in very rural Hugo, Colorado and both of their families live in Elbert, CO and are our home town kids. (small communities know what I mean, these kids belong to all of us! We watched them grow!) So they have chosen home health care and working with Hugo hospital for PT and OT and emergencies. But this requires Tim to be with Aly.
So our prayers and request is to raise the funds the kids need for basic necessities for Tim to care for Aly from 6mo-1yr. They have lived together in Hugo for 2 years and where they are most comfortable. Tim knows this is the challenge of a life time and his background is carpentry and wood floors but Aly is the love of his life and he is doing a fantastic job caring for Aly. Aly was "medically stable" released to Home Care on June 29th. They do not have a car and Aly can not be moved around so we are grateful Hugo Hospital will provide home visits. Now we are trying to cover rent, food, medical supplies and necessities. I am very proud of my children and Aly's family and our communities for donating everything the kids needed as far as medical equipment and safety upgrades to their house, and grateful for the landlord allowing the changes. Now if we can alleviate the stress of just existing, they can concentrate on physically, emotionally and mentally healing.
Aly has made amazing progress for only being 7 days from major reconstruction surgery and followed with another! She can sit up, and stand for a second with help and pivot on her right leg to sit back down! This may seem like very small things but this young lady not only could have died and we are very lucky she is not paralyzed from these injuries but the PT staff could not believe such progress so quickly! These kids (not kids but my babies not matter how old they are!) Are determined to put their lives back together and make what ever adjustments come up along the way.
If you are unable to donate, please share and send up a prayer, accepting all white light and positive energies for healing and peace in their hearts as they also deal with the trauma and emotional side of almost losing their lives or each other. Bless you and Thank you!
Bless you for sharing our story - From Tim and Aly's families
