Raj's Medical Expenses

Hello Everyone.

My name is Quiara, and I am reaching out to you today for help as my father, Hemaraj (Raj), suffered a massive stroke two weeks ago and has been fighting every moment to stay alive.

On November 4th, my father walked himself to the ER at Carewell Health for dizziness and nausea and ended up intubated in the ICU that very night.

He continued to deteriorate as he lost his ability to move every part of his body except for his eyes and lips. In a very short span of time, my father lost his ability to speak/move and therefore couldn’t communicate with the medical staff and advocate for himself. As his only child, I knew it would be up to me to step in and ensure he receives the proper medical care. After battling extensively with the hospital as to the level of his care, it was decided that he needed to be transferred to another facility that would provide him with the right level of attention and a much higher quality of care. On November 10th, my father was transferred to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), where it was discovered that my father had suffered a massive stroke in his brainstem. On November 14th, they had to place a tracheostomy and, on the 16th, a PEG feeding tube.

At 23 years old, I have become the sole delegate for his care, making all of his medical and financial decisions. Unfortunately, my father has no medical insurance, and it is still uncertain if he will qualify for Medicaid or Obamacare. Therefore, all his healthcare expenses at Carewell Health and RWJUH are being paid for out of pocket. His prognosis and length of hospital stay are still undetermined. All we know is that the recovery process will be extensive, and depending on his progress at the hospital, he will need to stay at a rehabilitation facility for yet another undetermined length of time.

It is with great humility that I seek your generous hearts and ask for your support to help me cover my father’s medical expenses. I cannot do this alone. Please support me in giving him the opportunity to speak, not through a communication board, but with words and hugs. Please support me in giving him the opportunity to take his

first physical steps toward recovery. Please support me in getting my father back to health. Any support would go a long way and would mean so much to me and my family.

Mi nombre es Quiara y les solicito ayuda hoy, ya que mi padre, Hemaraj (Raj), sufrió un derrame cerebral masivo hace dos semanas y ha estado luchando cada momento para mantenerse con vida.

El 4 de noviembre, mi padre caminó hasta la sala de emergencias de Carewell Health por mareos y náuseas y terminó intubado en la UCI esa misma noche. Continuó deteriorándose a medida que perdió la capacidad de mover cada parte de su cuerpo, excepto los ojos y los labios. En muy poco tiempo, mi padre perdió la capacidad de hablar y moverse y, por lo tanto, no podía comunicarse con el personal médico ni defenderse a sí mismo. Como su única hija, sabía que dependería de mí intervenir y asegurarme de que reciba la atención médica adecuada. Después de

luchar extensamente con el hospital en cuanto al nivel de su atención, se decidió que necesitaba ser transferido a otro centro que le brindara el nivel adecuado de atención y una calidad de atención mucho mayor. El 10 de noviembre, mi padre fue trasladado al Hospital Universitario Robert Wood Johnson (RWJUH), donde a la mañana siguiente se descubrió que mi padre había sufrido un derrame cerebral masivo en el tronco encefálico. El 14 de noviembre tuvieron que colocarle una traqueostomía, y el 16 una sonda de alimentación PEG.

A los 23 años me he convertido en el único delegado de su cuidado, tomando todas sus decisiones médicas y financieras. Desafortunadamente, mi padre no tiene seguro médico y aún no se sabe si calificará para Medicaid u Obamacare. Por lo tanto, todos sus gastos de atención médica, en Carewell Health y RWJUH, se pagan de su bolsillo. Su pronóstico y la duración de la estancia hospitalaria aún no se han determinado. Todo lo que sabemos es que el proceso de recuperación será extenso y,

dependiendo de su progreso en el hospital, deberá permanecer en un centro de rehabilitación por otro período de tiempo indeterminado.

Es con gran humildad que busco sus generosos corazones y les pido por su apoyo para ayudarme a cubrir los gastos médicos de mi padre. No puedo hacer esto sola. Por favor, ayúdenme a darle la oportunidad de hablar, no a través de un tablero de comunicación, sino con palabras y abrazos. Por favor, ayúdenme a darle la oportunidad de dar sus primeros pasos físicos hacia la recuperación. Por favor, ayúdenme a recuperar la salud de mi padre. Cualquier apoyo sería de gran ayuda y significaría mucho para mí y mi familia.
