Don protégé
As some of you may know on 7/9/2021 I was driving my work UTV around a pond spraying, a pond I’ve drove around dozens of times. Drove over some rocks and apparently underneath the rocks the ground was eroded out. Back tire went down and I begin to tip over. I tried to speed up but it didn’t matter. It tips over, all 2000 lb, right into the pond. Unfortunately what hit the pond first was me and then the UTV. It lands straight on my legs. I feel my left leg snap but was able to get it out as it was rocking. My right foot gets caught. I struggle for minutes to free my foot while I’m in the pond. Finally free and adrenaline is pumping so I didn’t realize how bad my leg is. Try to stand up and collapse. Trapped in the cab of the UTV, in the water, and can’t stand because now the pain is coming on fast. Where I was there was no one around and was behind a huge building so my voice doesn’t travel far. I begin to yell for help since I’m stuck. An hour goes by of me yelling and I begin to lose hope. I finally hear someone yell back and 15 minutes later police and EMS arrive. Come to find out a random, lone jogger heard me and got help.
Got rushed into the ER and found that I broke both my tibia and my fibula and would need emergency surgery the next morning and would be at least a 6 months injury to fully recover.
Since then my work has been very limited due to being on light duty coupled with physical therapy. Workmen’s comp has help tremendously but it only covers 2/3 normal pay check. Plus my wife had to take a leave from work for the first two months to help me around the house. I’ve been able to manage okay for the first 2 months since I had enough in savings but that is essentially running on empty now. As much as I don’t want to ask for help but just hoping to try get enough to make it through the holidays since I’m still not 100% back at work yet.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
