An Invitation to Kigali, Rwanda -
We are pleased to be invited and we want to go, we feel impelled to go...!
WHO ARE WE
We're Jimmy and Lynda, and we were only newlyweds 36 years ago starting off as volunteer workers in Asia. It's brought us great joy to serve from the Vietnamese refugees, to aids babies and moms in Cape Town, to the homeless in Hong Kong, finally, to the children living in gutters in Mongolia! And now, the honor of serving Rwanda!
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
Here we are at 65+ years old and
have been graced to survive a knee
replacement, dangerous roads, stroke, hip issues, and recently influenza B, just to name a few! But oh, this is incomparable to the deep wounding and suffering Rwanda has experienced.
THE GENOCIDE
Rwanda is known for its breathtaking scenery, volcano national parks and the endangered mountain gorillas, but on the other side of the coin, at least 63% of the population live in extreme poverty. Rwanda is still coming to grips from the dreadful 100 days of genocide in 1994; close to a million people's lives were snatched from them. That's just a bit over two decades ago, a memory that is still very real in the minds of many young adults and elderly today. Although, presently Rwanda is courageously moving forward and beyond that dark season as a nation, continued healing of the hearts are needed.
PLANS ARE PROGRESSING
The invitation comes from Christ for the Nations through a family member, Pam, whom we are very proud of! We will meet up with her and four others from her California church at the Kigali International Airport to form a small team. We're getting even more excited as we're writing this...!!!!
This is our first visit to Rwanda and we've been in preparation to stay there close to 2 weeks. So much has been finalized and we plan to use all means possible to go and encourage.
WHAT WILL WE DO
English phonics, reading and enrichment workshops through stories, art and music will be taught to the children and moms. We're looking forward to loving and playing with the kids! The men and other adults will have training and given motivational talks in how to raise their quality of life as a whole.
OUR GOAL
By going there we hope to connect and get to know these beautiful people, exhorting them in their faith and together dialogue and make observation as to how we can effectively help meet their needs for the future. Join with us to make this a reality.
