Meet my nephew; Blake!
I'm sure many of you have heard of this little hero's story; as it's been a long journey!
We are coming to you with hopeful hearts, slight embarrassment and a goal to make our little friends dream come true!
Last night, Starlight Children's Foundation reached out to Blakes mother and Father; Jenny and Justin.
Blake has been a child of Starlight for approximately two years now, when he first took ill. They have sent him and their little family on numerous adventures; but the call they received last night- is life changing! A dream comes true!
Starlight wants to make Blakes Wish come true, and would like to send him WALT DISNEY WORLD, in Florida!
Accommodations for their family, plane tickets; it's completely covered! They get 5 beautiful days together in the most magical place! No hospital, no Doctors, no stress; just love and fun!
So why do we need your help, you're probably wondering?
Well, they only have a few short weeks to get each one of them an Express Passport. They need special "Summer Items" for Blake such as shoes that work with his brace.
I know, to some that probably doesn't sound like a lot, but to a medical family; having those type of funds readily and available isn't so easy.
I pray that in these few short weeks they have, they can pull this together but they will need our help!
For those of you who are new here, let me give you a little back story about Blake!
Blake first took ill when he was only 5 years old. A healthy little boy, full of energy, smiles and loved giving his big goober kisses- whole world turned upside down in an instant.
Blake developed a common cold, nothing more than a runny nose and a cough. He then started to walk with a limp. His mother brought him to 4 different Doctors as her "Mommy Gut" was saying something was very wrong; but was constantly dismissed and told " it's just growing pains".
One night they heard a weird noise coming from his bedroom, where they quickly checked on him and were shocked at what they seen. Blake was a grey color, not breathing well and very ill. He was rushed very quickly to their local Hospital and in no time was on a Helicopter and on his way to SickKids.
Multiple, teams of doctors, multiple excruciating tests done, talks of brain surgery, so much unknown. Their beautiful little Daughter at home trying to figure out what was happening.
It's been a long 2 years of Multiple Hospital stays ( weeks at a time). Involving multiple Hospitals and Doctors from many different places.
Blake is found to have multiple lesions in his brain. A Brain Degenerative Disorder, Slowing of the Brain, Epilepsy, Autism, ADHD, right leg Paralysis and others. Hés been in Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational. He has to wear an AFO to help him walk. He just got a new wheelchair for long distances and major pain days.
Hes had to go back into wearing pullups some of the time. The list goes on and on unfortunately.
The worst part about this journey, despite having some of the best Doctors around; a prognosis is unknown. A rare gene has been found in Blake and is in the works to finding out more about it. To make things worse, Brooklyn ( their 5-year-old daughter) has been found to have this gene as well.
Life has been hard for them, so many unanswered questions. So much fear, tears and anxieties.
But they are strong, Blake is strong. He is such a sweet boy, so kind and caring and he deserves this so much!
